Can any type of final floor finish be installed on top of soundproofing for concrete floors?
Yes, for example our SoundMats act as a luxury carpet underlay for soft floor finishes, however some hard floor finishes such as thin laminate, vinyl and also tiles may require a 6mm hardboard first. Please refer to the individual product installation guide for more details.
Does concrete floor soundproofing block noise from above and below?
Soundproofing a concrete floor will block impact noise (footsteps) travelling from the room above to the room below.
Floor soundproofing can also block airborne noise travelling from below to the room above or from the room above to the room below.

What is the best way to soundproof a concrete floor?
The best way to soundproof a concrete floor is to:
- Improve the ability of the floor to absorb sound energy and impact vibration (e.g. footsteps)
- Improve the mass of the floor to help block airborne noise. Concrete is naturally high in mass and therefore is usually more effective than a timber floor at blocking airborne noise. However, if you are experiencing an airborne noise problem then this could indicate weak points, so please contact us to discuss further (01423) 206208
