Description

The SoundBoard4™ direct to ceiling system is designed to decrease airborne noise, with minimal loss of space and disruption to the home. Helping to reduce the emotional stress caused by noisy neighbours.

An easy to install, direct-to-ceiling soundproofing board, SoundBoard 4 offers the industry’s highest-performing 30mm soundproofing board with a mass of 29kg per m2 resulting in a huge 48dB sound reduction.

Ideal for standard household noise such as clear voices and TV.

(Not to be used for impact noise, vibration, or low bass frequencies from music, deep voices or snoring)

Features

SoundBoard 4 features 4 layers of different high mass soundproofing materials – to block a wider range of sound frequencies:

Only 30mm thick:

  1. 15mm Acoustic Plasterboard finish (ready for standard plasterboard decoration). 50% denser than standard 12.5mm plasterboard. This dense layer has a mass of 12.6kg per m2 allowing it to reflect and convert high levels of sound energy into heat
  2. 3mm Mass loaded vinyl (designed to replace lead in soundproofing). 10kg per m2 and originally developed to replace lead in soundproofing due to the associated health risks. With the same mass/soundproofing qualities as lead, but with improved sound-absorbing capabilities. Mass Loaded Vinyl performs differently to the mass in the plasterboard due to the different construction, therefore helping to block a greater range of sound frequencies
  3. 9mm closed cell foam (dampens sound energy and vibrations) and stops sound energy and vibrations from travelling through the board
  4. 3mm Mass loaded vinyl (designed to replace lead in soundproofing). An extra layer of mass loaded vinyl further increases airborne noise blocking capabilities

The acoustic plasterboard has a tapered edge allowing for smoother skim plaster finishes.

Airborne Acoustic performance:

1: Ideal for standard household noise, such as clear voices, normal levels of TV noise

2: Direct to a timber joist ceiling 45dB

*dB results stated are based on a standard low performing timber joist ceiling. (Performance will vary with different structural make-ups)

**dB results based on 50mm acoustic mineral wool between joists and SoundBoard 4

Limitations of all direct to ceiling systems:

Not recommended for impact noise, vibration, or lower to mid/ bass frequencies of sound

For higher levels of soundproofing, please see our ReductoClip Ceiling System

N.B. dB performance figures may vary due to several factors, read more

The SoundBoard4™ is simply fitted to the existing ceiling.

  • SoundBoard 4 can be applied directly to any level/flat ceiling surface, leaving a 5mm gap around the perimeter and then sealed with an acoustic sealant to prevent flanking vibration
  • Secured through the timber joists with suitable length drywall screws. Please note this will not affect the performance of the board as; 1. The foam layer in the board will dampen vibration travelling through the ceiling to the new plasterboard and 2. The amount of vibration that can travel through small screws is negligible.
  • Easy to cut with a fine-tooth saw or circular saw
  • Can be fitted by a good DIY’er or any tradesman with experience of fitting plasterboard
  • SoundBoard4™ is a handmade laminated product and has a tolerance of 2-3mm
